The first time she kissed me her tooth was askew,
her foot was wrapped up in plaster.
And though each time we’d fight it would end in a screw,
my lady would suffer no master.
Coppery sweet were her lips,
hair so impossibly woven,
eyes sparkling red.
She was deft with a knife, cutting heads off of mice,
her apron embroidered with entrails.
Her cooking was fine if you held your nose and were blind;
you didn’t want too many details.
Then late one night I discovered her stash;
skinned cats and hideous laughter.
So now I know every time that she grins
’tis the favor of Satan she’s after.
